Company P&O Ports, the core business of P&O, (FTSE 150), manages container terminal and port operations internationally with activities in China, Australia, New Zealand, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Far East Russia, UK, Belgium, France, South Africa, Mozambique, Argentina, USA, Canada, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

P&O Ports businesses are structured as wholly owned subsidiaries through to multi party joint ventures. The business has grown during the last ten years to be the principal business of P&O.

  • Operating profit increased from approx US$50M in 1995 to approx US$350M in 2005 with return improved to over 13% on US$2.5Bn of capital.

    Early Career History

    Responsibilities Stevedoring supervision of container, car, ro ro, offshore supply, general cargo and Antarctic research / supply operations.

    Chief Officer on icebreaker supply ship for Antarctic operations.

    Commercial and operations management of 10,000 tonnes pipe structures from Japan to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska.

    Formed consultancy partnership specialising in polar ship design and operation. Lead successful tender for contract to provide Australian government with purpose built icebreaking research supply ship.
